Enhanced Emergency Care Facilities Open at Russells Hall Hospital
Projects
We’re proud to have supported the delivery of new state‑of‑the‑art resuscitation facilities at Russells Hall Hospital, working with both The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust and Mitie to provide services across all phases of the project; as part of a wider programme to improve emergency care for patients and clinical teams.
Following a successful redevelopment, the project has transformed the hospital’s Emergency Department, creating a modern and resilient resuscitation environment designed to meet both current and future demand. The expanded facilities offer dedicated adult and paediatric resuscitation areas, new isolation rooms to strengthen infection prevention and control, and an improved bereavement suite that provides a calm, private space for families during difficult moments. The development also introduces advanced digital technology, including a digital medicines solution that improves the safe storage, prescribing and administration of medication.
Delivering this scheme within a live 24/7 hospital setting required careful planning, close coordination and ongoing engagement with clinical teams to minimise disruption while maintaining patient safety and operational continuity.
Our team delivered a broad range of services, including Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Employer’s Agent and Principal Designer roles. We also provided strategic management and business case preparation, Clerk of Works support and BREEAM advisory services. Working closely with the Trust, Mitie and the wider project team — including principal contractor Speller Metcalfe — we supported programme delivery, ensured robust cost management and value for money, represented the client’s interests throughout, and helped maintain compliance with health, safety and sustainability requirements.
The new facilities represent an important step forward in emergency care, providing clinicians with a high‑quality environment that supports patient outcomes, staff wellbeing and long‑term service resilience.
