Opening Doors to the Built Environment: Highlights from Regeneration Brainery London Brainery Week

Young people from across the UK joined Regeneration Brainery London Brainery Week for a packed and insightful programme at RICS HQ and the UK Parliament.

Designed to widen access to the built environment sector, the day gave students the chance to explore how places take shape; from the decisions behind major regeneration projects to the practicalities of delivering schemes that impact communities every day. Through workshops, discussions and team challenges, participants were encouraged to think creatively, ask questions, and test out ideas in a supportive, real‑world setting.

As part of the programme, students visited one of Drees & Sommer’s live projects at the UK Parliament. Students were able to see regeneration and heritage considerations up close, gaining insight into the complex balance of preserving historic assets while ensuring they continue to serve the public.

Drees & Sommer has been supporting UK Parliament since 2019 as part of the Houses of Parliament Mechanical Electrical, Public Health & Fabric Safety (MEPFS) Programme, providing programme management, quantity surveying, business case development and health and safety expertise. We also hold a place on the Parliamentary PMCM framework, which recognises our ongoing commitment to the estate.

Throughout the day, students engaged with professionals working across the sector, hearing honest reflections on the varied pathways into the industry and the skills needed to deliver meaningful change in towns and cities. Their energy and curiosity made for thoughtful discussions, fresh perspectives, and plenty of future ambition.

Regeneration Brainery continues to play a vital role in helping young people, particularly those without existing connections to the built environment, explore opportunities and see the impact they can have on communities and the places we share.

Drees & Sommer UK was pleased to support the day, and we extend our thanks to the Regeneration Brainery team and everyone involved for creating such a memorable and valuable experience for the students.
